Fourth Grade homework has two components:
1) Reading Homework -- Fourth graders are expected to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night, five nights per week. Students will be bringing home their chosen books, and they should continue to read them at home. Any alternate reading material should be approved by Mrs. Kane. It is important that students not have separate books going at home and school, because we want the students to be able to move through each book at a steady pace and to keep track of characters, plot, and other elements without getting confused. Twenty minutes is the minimum required; students should absolutely feel free to read more if they are engaged!!
2) Chosen Activity -- Fourth graders are also expected to document another "active" activity they do for at least 20 minutes each afternoon or evening. This can be Math homework, if Mrs. Kane assigns some, or it may be a sport, outside play, bike riding, board games, chores, or family activities. It should not be video games, television shows, movies, or watching videos on YouTube. The goal with this homework assignment is to help students find and maintain balance in their lives. Please feel free to reach out to me if you are not sure if an activity would count for this homework!
